About  Mandy

It has become the standard for about pages to contain a 3rd person biography. For those who are interested in these sorts of formal chronicles, you will find yourself incredibly disappointed by what follows.

Hi there!

When I was very young, I colored a picture for a contest – I think it was hosted by a local restaurant. I won for my age category, and acquired a giant stuffed Big Bird for my efforts. That might be when the art bug bit me.

My whole life I’ve been surrounded by artists – family friends, family members, residents of my hometown – and I always wanted to be in that crowd. So I chased the dream, coloring and drawing, borrowing drawing books from the library – but then I became an adult.

I fell into a steady rhythm of work, and bills, and household chores, and basically trained myself to believe that I had no such thing as time for art. But eventually the bug bit me again, and I started poking around, trying to find my lane.

In 2017 I chose to focus on 3 specific skills – watercoloring, handlettering, doodling. I didn’t get very far with the doodling, I had more fun with watercoloring than I’d ever anticipated, but lettering was where I really threw my heart and soul. My husband would come home to dozens of calligraphy drills all over the bed.

Friends marveled at the pace at which I’d picked it up, and that’s when I realized, you don’t have to be naturally gifted – you can just be insanely passionate. Throwing yourself into something with all the energy you’ve got will go a really long way. So that’s what I’m working on now, throwing myself into another project… wanna come along for the ride?
